Town Hall Meeting Planned for Cultural Artists and
Organizations to Discuss Challenges They Face in Houston

Houston Institute for Culture
Town Hall Meeting for Non-profit Organizations
6:30pm, Monday, May 7, 2001
901 Bagby, First Floor Board Room
City Hall, Downtown Houston

At our May meeting, we invite Houston cultural and community organizations to discuss and assess problems and challenges they face. We want artists, musicians and non-profit organizations to get involved in the effort to improve cultural opportunities in Houston. By examining the role of organizations that promote interest in art and culture to serve the community, as well as universities, local government and the media, we hope to find solutions to problems with participation, funding, networking, promotion and facilities for events.

There will, additionally, be an opportunity for those interested to learn more about Camp Dos Cabezas, a Houston Institute for Culture Youth Education Program. The educational and recreational camp will pair mentors with deserving youth for a one-week exploration of America's diverse culture and history in southeast Arizona.

The Town Hall Meeting will take place at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby, in the board room on the first floor. Call 713-521-3686 for directions or more information.

Those with special physical or communication needs that may impact participation in this activity should contact Mark Lacy at 713-521-3686 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting to discuss accommodations.

Requests for more information can be sent by email to info@houstonculture.org. Meeting updates through May 7 at 5:00pm can be found on the Internet at www.houstonculture.org/meeting.

Houston Institute for Culture is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural education and awareness through cultural activities. Our goal is to provide free and low-cost events, services and classes for the community. The organization's sphere of interest is Houston, the regions that have affected Houston's cultural history and the international origins of Houston's diverse population. Membership is free and all events and informational resources are open to the public.
