Download PSA (:45 with music)
End date: November 6, 2005
Emma Tenayuca was a pioneer labor and civil rights activist. She began supporting labor strikes for workers in San Antonio in 1932, at the age of 15. Tenayuca supported garment workers and pecan shellers, and protested abuses of migrants - more than two decades before Cesar Chavez and the Civil Rights Movement.
Houston Institute for Culture presents a Day of the Dead Altar for Emma Tenayuca to celebrate the popular Mexican tradition and to raise awareness of modern issues on the US-Mexico border. Visitors are encouraged to donate needed items to Texas-Mexico border communities.
The exhibit will take place at the Houston Institute for Culture, 5555 Morningside, from October 15 through November 6. See www.houstonculture.org for more details.
