e-culture: MLK parades, more Houston events, films, etc.
January 18, 2002

Hello friends, I'm the lucky interim editor of the HIFC e-culture newsletter. My job is to coordinate submissions to this wonderful newsletter and encourage everyone to participate in cultural events. If you have events or other community activities you want to share with us, please send your information to me as quickly as possible (even those of you in other states and countries are welcome to report on traditions and important events). We will report these great opportunities on January 20 and again February 5 (one week before Mardi Gras). After that a new recruit will take over as I am off to Zimbabwe. Get your information to me as soon as possible. While I'm guiding the ship, all events are welcome, rent parties and sidewalk sales included.

Mark is busy fixing his boat motor, talking with The Toasters, reporting on Jello (Biafra that is), walking the dog, watering the plants, washing the dishes, watching TV, and writing a book (in that order). But seriously, our gang of Time Bandits has been out on the Gulf of Mexico testing "drifters" to learn more about the treacherous journey that brought Cabeza de Vaca to Texas in 1528. I'll tell you all about it in the newsletter.

In the mean time, please support these great events:

Two MLK parades:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Grande Parade, Monday, January 21, 10:00am
Black Heritage Society Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, January 21, 2:00pm

Both parades start on Texas at Louisiana in Downtown Houston.
It's an important time to go out and support these events to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
