A traditional Bharata Natyam repertoire by Namita Bodaji 1. Kavuthvams: Kavuthvams are ancient temple dances composed in a particular rhythm formed of instrumental sounds interwoven with words in praise of deities. Ganapathy Kavuthvam: Propitiatory dance dedicated to Lord Ganapathy, destroyer of obstacles, Adi Devata. Karthikeya Kavuthvam: In praise of Lord Karthikeya, son of Lord Shiva, who destroyed the demons and saved humanity. Nataraja Kavuthvam: This Kavuthvam describes vividly the various divine deeds of the dancing Lord. Kali Kavuthvam: This Kavuthvam is in praise of the Goddess Kali. 2. Jatiswaram: Raga: Bhairavi Tala: 3. Shabdam: "Shankari Shankaru" This composition of Shyama Shastri is in praise of Goddess Parashakti, describing her divine beauty. She is portrayed as the protector of her devotees from sins, sorrows and worldly illusions. Raga: Saveri Tala: Adhi Thisra Nadai 4. Varnam: A maiden who has abundance of deep love towards the king Sethupathy, the benevolent ruler of the great Ramanathapuram state - gives a fine description of His incomparable qualities to her sakhi.
