Establishing Goals for the Organization and Resources for Artists on the Internet
Extensive use of the Internet and our website made it clear we would need to broaden our topics and include many links to useful resources for artists and the community. Many of these resources appear in the section under the banner Houston Institute for Culture, while features appear in specific sections, like Cultural Crossroads, Terra Incognita, Lost Dutchman, World Music and Kiva On Line.
In addition to traditional and historical cultures of the region, our expanded topics published on the web will include pop culture, media culture, counter culture and folk art. Two very important efforts will be the Virtual Classroom and Gulf Coast Special music program.
Among our goals is a plan to preserve traditional forms of music from the founder's extensive music collection, and to present history of the regional artists on the Internet and through educational programs on radio. Eventually, we will establish a performance space and a music listening room, as well as exhibit space and a facility to make educational resources available to the community.
