Houstonians responded with generosity after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Now Houstonians have responded generously to one another after Hurricane Ike.

"Thank you, Houston" will take place on Friday, September 26. Beginning at 6:00pm, aid and service agencies will distribute information and answer questions that Houstonians may have about Hurricane Ike relief. Houstonians may also connect to volunteer efforts to provide additional relief and recovery in Houston and surrounding counties. From 6:30 to 9:00pm, Houstonians will be treated to brass band music and red beans and rice and jambalaya while it lasts.

Members of the public are encouraged to bring non-perishable "ready-to-eat" food items for the Houston Food Bank, to assist with their hurricane relief efforts.

ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE RECOVERY AND RELIEF INFORMATION

Organizations that can provide information to Houstonians who still need assistance with housing, health and other matters should plan to attend and distribute information to the community.

ORGANIZATIONS TO CONNECT VOLUNTEERS TO HURRICANE-RELATED PROJECTS

As Houston nears recovery, there are still many needs in the city and in neighboring communities that were hard hit by the hurricane. Recovery and relief efforts will be ongoing for weeks to come. Organizations that will be involved in hurricane-related projects in the future should attend and recruit volunteers for their efforts.

Contact info@houstonculture.org to reserve a table at Discovery Green.

"Thank You, Houston" was originally planned as a commemoration of Houston's life-saving hospitality to Katrina and Rita survivors and a celebration of Gulf Coast traditions through music, food and survivors' stories. Following Hurricane Ike it has been modified to celebrate Houstonians' support for their neighbors in the days after the storm.
