Public History Project
Houston Institute for Culture will begin a Public History Project in Spring 2008.
Individuals are invited to contribute their stories to this important archive, which will represent the diversity of Houston and its experiences, and provide a valuable resource for interested community members, student and professional researchers, and future generations.
Recording of personal narratives, oral histories, and community dialogue (a community member may interview someone they want to include in this project) is conducted by appointment only. Limited open hours for walk-ins may be announced in the future.
In the above photo, a traditional Vietnamese woman walks the grounds of her first home in Houston, the Allen Parkway Village, near downtown [Learn More].
Community members are encouraged to volunteer to help organize and document this city-wide effort and facilitate interviews. Training will be provided through our Digital Story Resource Center [DSRC WEBSITE].
We are interested in people who are connected to historic events in Houston, such as the Civil Rights Movement (Reverend Bill Lawson is pictured at right), participants in unique cultural activities that improve Houstonian's quality of life, as well as community leaders, educators, policy makers and entrepreneurs that make Houston a dynamic city.
