Description
|
Originally called "The Houston Negro Hospital", the Riverside General Hospital was completed in 1926. A three-story building in Spanish Colonial Revival style located in the city's Third Ward, it was the first non-profit hospital for Black
patients in Houston.
Adjancent is the Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing Building. While currently vacant, the Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing was most actively utilized from 1926-1949.
Houson Negro Hospital provided a place of work and education for Black physicians and medical personnel and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
