Description
|
Established in 1896, this primarily African-American cemetery contains 4,400 graves on 5.2 acres. It was named after the Houston Central College for Negroes that was located across W. Dallas in the early 20th century. Among the graves is the burial site of Jack Yates, former slave and one of the most prominent Black leader in Houston.
Note: While several attempts to maintain College Park Cemetery have been undertaken, the cemetery is heavily overgrown and in poor repair, rending parts of the cemetery in accessible. When visiting, please be mindful of the ample amounts of poison ivy growing throughout the cemetery.
