New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana Parishes
Cultural Resource Recovery Status

Orleans Parish and the surrounding region experienced tremendous loss of life due to Hurricane Katrina. In the storm's aftermath, more than one million people were dispersed around the nation. The economy of a vast portion of the United States was devastated, livelihoods and homes vanished.

The nation lost significant portions of its most important cultural landscape. Communities, historic sites, museums and events that reveal everything about the United States and our diverse heritage have been damaged or destroyed.

We are watching closely to see how many of the region's cultural resources can be restored or revived. We will account for these resources as soon as it is possible.
